Sooo…
For me, the past few Thanksgivings have been quite different from each other:

One year I decided to prepare a full Thanksgiving meal in my tiny NYC apt kitchen. Mom repeatedly asked me the whole time if I had felt claustrophobic living in my apt. It didn’t help that with the oven on all day, it made the entire place hot as hell & super uncomfortable.

To top it off, since I own a limited number of dinnerware place settings, I had to continuously wash dishes after the appetizers and until dessert.

Chinet anyone?
Another year, the fam & I decided to take a break from the traditional full-day-o-cookin’ and opted for a fantastic Thanksgiving meal at a fabulous Italian resty in Midtown – complete with fresh mozzarella made at the table!

Can’t get more fresher (or easier) than that folks ;-)
Then last year, I spent Thanksgiving day in the hospital with my mom since she had just suffered a stroke on the 22nd of Nov. Worst Thanksgiving (& year) ever
This Thanksgiving, I am hauling Midtown Pups & myself to my parents house to spend it with them. All I have to do is – SHOW UP, lol!

Crossing my fingers that they will have the fried shrimp & ribs I requested as part of my fav additions to the traditional Turkey feast (sorry – sooo NOT a fan of Turkey!)…

And this year, I am thankful that my mom is home & healthy and that I can spend the holiday the way is should be spent…with my family ;-)

Midtown Girl & Midtown Pups wish you & your fabulous families a wonderful, happy & healthy Thanksgiving holiday.

Sooo thankful to have you dahlings as part of our extended family – kissies for everyone!!!

Thanksgiving love,

Sweet Sundays: Award Fun – Yay!

24 Oct, 2009  |  Uncategorized
Happy Sweet Sunday Bloggy Lovelies!!

I was given the lovely Kreativ Award by darling D of Dream Sequins & adorable PenPen of Penny Lane !!

Upon acceptance of this award, I have to list 7 things about myself…

7 Little Tidbits About MG:

I used to be obsessed with Bluefly. I’m talking – fantastically obsessed. I mean to the point where I would set my alarm clock (cell phone) to get up at the exact time Bluefly would update their daily inventory. Insane much? Thank god, I don’t do this anymore – it was completely effing up my internal clock. For shiz.

I have a weekly ice cream fix. Good thing Baskin Robbins’ is a 15 second walk from my apt. Mint Chip Double Oreo Cookie is my current fav but vanilla soft serve will suffice any day.

I am one of those chicks” that carries her dog in her handbag while running errands. I carry Midtown Pups in my LV bc she loves it & So.Do.I.

Yea, I said it…now what? LOL!

I am a Foodie. Not only do I love trying out new types of cuisines, I have to try out a new restaurant at least once a month to get my foodie fix (or I’ll get the foodie-jitters). My current fav is David Burke Townhouse, of which I went to for the 1st time during NYC Restaurant Week (Resty Wk is one of my fav NYC events of the yr).

I am now a Lover of all things Vintage. In fact, I’m gonna do a post of my recent vintage buys. The Manhattan Vintage Clothing Show, which I went to about a wk ago, almost killed me. I’m relieved that I got there in the last hour, bc had I not, I would have been relegated to eating Barilla Protein pasta for the next 2 months. And as a Foodie, that would have been pure torture.

Btw – I am currently engaged to Vintage Givenchy. No wedding date has been set…as of yet.

I love, love, love Home Decor. I am still contemplating on being an apt owner rather than renter bc I want to paint my walls a light lilac with a cream trim…but I don’t want to waste my time doing so if the place isn’t mine!! And I am still looking for my dream mirrored coffee table to go with my fabulush couch & tufted wing chair….where are you dream coffee table?

Lastly & most importantly – I never start a project unless I know I will put my heart & soul into it.

Nothing is worth doing unless you are passionate about it. Nothing.

I pass this Kreativ award to the following AWESOME Bloggy -Buds:

Sunday kissies,

Weekend Recap: Pure FABULOSITY!

Wow – soo much fun with some FABULUSH peeps – girlfriends are so Ah-May-Zing!

Ok, so my weekend started super early with projects winding down early Friday aft. Before my birthday cocktail explosion on Saturday I had a much-needed, convo-saturated lunch @ Coffee Shop in Union Square with one on my bloggy – now IRL life – besties Monica from CiaoChessa.
Every time Monica & I get together, one convo leads to another to another to another & we end up talking about a million things. It’s so hilarious bc we have about 50 convos we have YET to finish – LOVE this girl x 100!

BTW – Monica knows Paris like the back of her hand & will be helping me plan my first trip to Le PARIS – EXCITED!!!

Then I had the pleasure of having dinner with the beautiful Wendy from Wendy Brandes Jewelry @ Park Avenue Autumn . Wendy gave me the nickname Jessica Rabbit (which I adore her forever for) & I shall now deem her my Lady in Red bc she wears the most gorgeous, perfect shade of red lipstick. I made her promise to take me red-lipstick shopping bc I NEED those amazing red lips!!

Btw – I will be doing a designer profile post on her later this week calledQueen of Tricked out Bling”. Yes, her designs are that FEROSH.

Fast Forward….

On Saturday for my Birthday celebration, some of my super-hottie NYU Alumna chickies came into la ciudad to celebrate with cocktails @ the Park in Chelsea.

Can I just tell you – even though we haven’t seen each other in what feels like ‘forever & a day’ – it’s as if we’ve never been apart. I effing love that!

Btw – blue-colored cocktails should be BANNED forevz- I’ll just rename them “headaches in a glass” from now on - yeesh.

Then on Sunday, my loving, awesomely-awesome parents drove in for a bday dinner @ Siniqual in Midtown. I inhaled my Lobster Enchiladas & Patron-Perfect Margaritas which was, well.. Perfect! And dangerously delish! Dinner was great and my parents are awesome – LOVE YOU TONS!

In this Wednesday’s SIMC epi, we have the sassy:
Lauren from The Offbeat Report,
on location in San Francisco!

A little about me…
I just moved to San Francisco three months ago from Colorado. Got a great job in an incredible city! I love it out here, everything about the city is magical. It’s been a huge change for me, coming from Colorado to California. But every step of the ride has been totally worth it! Best decision I ever made!

How would you describe the ‘dating scene’ in your city?

San Francisco is young – that’s what I love about it. There are young people everywhere. There is always something to do, somewhere to go. The energy is wild. There are so many restaurants and bars in the city (and the outskirts), the question is always, “Ah! Where should we go tonight!” I’m also a firm believer in creating your own opportunities.

Have you in the past or are you currently, online-dating?

I moved to San Francisco a little over three months ago. When I moved, I knew no one. Like, not a single soul. So, I joined this site to try and meet people. I left it open so girls could contact me, too, if they were in the same situation I was. Low and behold, I met some great guys who wanted to show me around! There’s no better way to see a new city than to go on dates.

If yes, in your opinion, do you think online-dating is a better way to meet new people rather than the traditional meet at a bar/club/restaurant/bookstore/where-ever, scene? Why?

Holy cow, yes. I have dated my fair share of “frogs” and I can tell you this right now… online dating is great. Look at it like this – when you apply for a job, you send an email with your resume attached. Then, you hope that they like your resume enough to call you in for an interview. Now, you have the opportunity to rock the interview and subsequently get the position you applied for. Well, being my boyfriend is a position to be earned in the company of “Lauren.” And I don’t just hire anyone. Dating online allows these guys to “submit their resume” to me and then I can decide if I want to meet them in person. I, personally, think it narrows down the scope and allows you to make more of an educated decision on who you want to spend your time with. After all, your time is precious!

Would you recommend online-dating to your friends/family, etc.?

Absolutely. I would, of course, remind them to be safe and only meet people in public places for the first time. But, it’s a great way to get to know someone before physically meeting them. Then, the first time you meet, it’s not nearly as awkward.. The only weird part is the question, “How did you guys meet?” While online dating is definitely becoming more and more accepted, it still comes with some stereotypes. Meh, I say embrace it!

What sort of guys do you try to avoid like the plague?

I’m fairly picky with guys I choose to invest serious time and effort into. However, I’m an equal opportunity dater. I’m at an age now where I want someone who has a job, has their head on straight, and treats me right. Doesn’t seem like much, does it? You’d be surprised.

Is there a specific “type” that runs rampant in your city?

San Francisco is divided into little districts. Depending on where you are in the city, you could be surrounded by hipsters, Latinos, grunge, 25-year-old frat boys, punks, or normal average-joes. Totally depends. But, you can find every type of guy out here – that’s the beauty of living in the city!

What are some of your favorite date spots to go to for dinner/cocktails or both (yay!)?

Oooh, there are lots to choose from. I really just like going somewhere that I haven’t been before. I’m all about the fun, energetic ambiance. I love Le Colonial downtown, Betelnut in the Marina, Martuni’s in the Mission, but I am always up for trying new things. I don’t like going to loud clubs on a first date, however… kinda sends the message that you don’t care what I have to say…

What is your staple go-to date outfit? Pics please!

Deciding what to wear is a tough! It all depends on the guy and the plans. For casual dates, I usually just wear a cute sweater or top and boots. Boots are HUGE in San Francisco and I LOVE them. Like, L-O-V-E. I think tucking pants into boots is a really easy way to add a little sass to the outfit. So even when dressing casual, you can dress it up a bit with some boots. And don’t forget the accessories!

When the date is a bit dressier, I LOVE wearing bright colors with contrasting black. There is nothing sexier than black skinny jeans and killer heels. I have so many heels it’s hard to choose. San Francisco also gets cold at night, so this outfit is great paired with a little leather jacket.

What would you consider to be the most romantic attribute of your city?

Between the city lights and the beautiful bay, I don’t think there is anything that’s not romantic about this city.

Thank you so much Lauren! Loved reading about the San Fran dating scene & the uber helpful online-dating advice – I agree, just go for it!!

Happy mid-week kissies,

p.s. – make sure to check back every Wednesday for another blogisode of my “Single in My City” Series!

p.p.s. – Please feel free to email me if you are interested in participating in SIMC!!!

Giveaway Wins from Nubia & Hanako! XOXO

11 Oct, 2009  |  Uncategorized
YAY x 100!!! I was lucky enough to win two FABULUSH giveaway items!!
First from stunning Nubia @ NubiaNonsense – I received “the Pamela” Headband, a patent-pending zipper headband created by Mary Beirne, owner/founder of gla.MAR.ous. You can purchase one here. P.S. – not only is the headband darling, so is the packaging!!

Second was the Hanako66 @ Through the Looking Glass giveway with Our.City.Lights. I chose this sofa pic as my fav bc it reminds me of the sofa I had (pre-Buttercream Sofa in the emo-post pic, below) that I insanely GAVE away instead of storing it at my mom’s house. So to ease my memories, I chose this luscious sofa pic taken by my bloggy babe Diana. You can purchase your own sofa pic (or any of her other fab pics) at her Etsy shop here.

Thank you Nubia & Hanako. I will definitely treasure my wins!!

happy kissies,

p.s. AWW HEEL NAW – Trailor Park is not the word!! I just left a comment on Nubia’s latest post - you guys HAVE to check out the blog she just posted about – XOXO

BLACK: worn in different tonal shades, in a mix of fabrics and tailored to the nines – is a fabulous way to look uber chic during European Fashion Week (or for any week, in fact!).

Black was a staple for moi during NYFW b/c it is sophisticated, sleek & you can work different events in one day – perfection!

Perfect Example: Rihanna -anna -anna-a
Ri’s Paris Fashion Week Outy’s were a force to be reckoned with some seriously FIERCE visuals.

@ Christian Dior Pret a Porter

@ Vivienne Westwood Pret a Porter
I would prefer pants/skirt/something but whtevz

@ Karl Lagerfeld Pret a Porter -
