*Dating Girl is new column on MG, written by Kimberlee, a single girl in NYC. Every Wednesday she’ll be sharing her dating journey in Manhattan. Check out her first post dahlings…

Hello fellow single gals!

Kimberlee, your Dating Girl here. I must admit that I was a little hesitant when Amy invited me to share my dating journey with you all because I haven’t been on a date in quite some time. A little over a year to be exact. GASP! I know… Why? you may be wondering. Well… there are many reasons but one of the big ones was I was tired of the dating pool in Manhattan.

1. Manhattan is one of the toughest cities to date – I’m convinced!

After getting out of a long term relationship, I returned to OkCupid to get myself back out there. However, after about 3 bad dates I found myself asking “why am I wasting my time?” I occupied myself with grad school and an internship. I enjoyed the break from it all. It was a great time to work on myself and focus on my career.

2. I wondered if I was ready to get back out there.

Recently, we discussed this very topic during #datechat because I was starting to worry that I had been out of the game too long. The general response was “when you feel ready”. Don’t do it for the wrong reasons: you’re lonely, your family and friends are pressuring you to get back out there or you just want a boyfriend for the sake of having a boyfriend.

3. Do it on your own terms.

I look forward to this journey and sharing my experiences through these Dating Girl posts. I do think I’m ready and I think if I wait too long then I’ll become one of those cat ladies lol. At some point you do have to make the blind leap.

Have you ever taken a break from dating? How did you know you were ready to get back out there?
