Designer Deets: Chulette

11 Jan, 2010  |  Designers
While shopping at Showroom New York‘s recent Designer Sample Sale, I had the pleasure of meeting Lee Phutrakul, designer behind NYC label Chulette. Lee was kind enough to show me pieces from Chulette’s S/S 2010 Collection and I have to say – the collection is simply divine.

Many of the pieces are made of 100% silk and range in light shades of taupe, stone, blue & yellow – the perfect color palette for the S/S season. A few of my favorite pieces:

The Open Sea Dress with its conservative front, surprises you with a partial open back outlined in contrasting colored pleats. It reveals just the perfect amount of skin.

The Wave Dress, again exemplifies Lee’s intrinsic eye for detail with its beautiful pleated neckline, this time done in a lighter, complimentary shade of the dress.

The Draped Skirt instantly gives you the visual of a tulip, a perennial Spring flower, in the most refreshing shade of light blue.

The Seahorse Dress is a versatile shift dress with a deep v-neckline and made of 100% Swiss Pima Cotton. This is an ideal “throw on & go” dress for the S/S Season.

The Cape Blouse, another piece made of luxurious silk and shown in a lush shade of purple, has a beautiful drape over the shoulders done in sumptuous sheer silk.

The Waterfall Dress has a relaxed fit and is a perfect layering piece under a cardigan or blazer.

The Tuck Waist Skirt with its pin-tucked detailing at the waist, gives it that perfect touch of delicate femininity.

The Double-Collar Draped Blouse has a relaxed fit with free-flowing split sleeves. The collar lends a nautical feel to the blouse.

The Cloudy Dress, an effortless silhouette, has contrasting tonal stripes along the v-neck line, short & flirty dolman sleeves and an elasticized waist.

About the designer:

Lee Phutrakul never set out to become a fashion designer; however her dedication to fashion and natural eye for design seamlessly led her to a career as a designer. After studying advertising in Bangkok Thailand and eventually landing the assistant fashion editor role at Esquire magazine, Phutrakul decided to pursue a career in fashion design. It was during this time that she was recognized as a finalist for Fashion Group International’s prestigious women’s ready-to-wear design competition. In 2007, Chulette was created to redefine casual sophistication for the woman who appreciates simplicity but with an eye to detail.
