Steak Frites & The City: Le Relais de Venise L’Entrecôte Soho

Feb 28th 2018 0 Comments

Le Relais de Venise L’Entrecote restaurants have been expanding globally since it first opened in Paris in 1959. With a loyal following in Midtown Manhattan, their Soho location is a welcome addition to the downtown food scene.

Featuring steak frites (steak & fries) as the sole entree on the menu, the $29.95 main course is served with a starter green salad with crushed walnuts & mustard vinaigrette. L’Entrecote offers a wine list that compliments their signature steak dish. The server asks you how you prefer your steak cooked –  ‘blue’, ‘rare’, ‘medium’ or ‘well done’. I prefer ‘medium’ while Midtown Chap prefers ‘blue’. We asked for their “special sauce” (L’Entrecote’s speciality) on the side which elevated the traditional steak frites experience. It was divine.

As servers add more frites to your plate after you finish the initial serving (yes, please!), the dining ambiance offers a romantic, Parisian aesthetic as a welcome hiatus in bustling Soho.

The dessert menu is both extensive and decadent. We shared Le Vacherin du Relais (pictured below) and the Cheesecake au Caramel et Noix. Le Vacherin du Relais is a must-try dessert featuring meringue layers that alternate with vanilla & hazelnut ice cream, all covered in molten chocolate. This was amazing. And if you’re an Americano aficionado (like MG), you must have one here. It truly was one of the best Americanos I’ve had in NYC.

MG Tips:

  1. Lovely spot for date night, group dining and friends & family visiting from out of town.
  2. Located at 40 Thompson St, New York, NY 10013, 212-334-2580.
  3. Menu – exclusively steak frites!
