Dear Midtown Girl,

I’m still friends with my ex on facebook. I’m with a new guy now and my relationship is going great, but I really want to unfriend my ex. The problem is I don’t want him to think I am insecure or unhappy in the relationship I’m currently in. Should I just block him or stop obsessing over this?

There are a couple of things you should think about:

1. Does it really matter to you what your EX thinks about you unfriending him on FB? It shouldn’t, he’s your ex. Sometimes it’s just easier to cut some (all) social media ties if he is no longer a part of your life.

2. You can always hide his updates. If deleting your ex is giving you anxiety, then hide his updates. You definitely don’t need to know what he is doing on a daily basis. In my experience, I have blocked updates from an ex and after a few months, I had no reason to stay FB friends with him, what would be the point?

The best thing you can do is to start mentally preparing yourself to not focus on your ex (or his updates). By doing so, you can enjoy your current relationship & this great guy. Focus on YOU doll!

  1. What an outstanding post, thank you a lot for climbing
this issue. Being deeply reassured that a lot of
people would talk about your views, I even showed your writing into a friend of mine.
And that is when the arguments started… We have different opinions but,
naturally, no matter, be it just something routine or really important, should destroy a true friendship.
In my humble opinion, which has the right to exist, the
point you have made cannot be contested.
